as she visibly contemplates,      benny patiently,      eagerly waits by poking the inside of his cheek with his tongue,      because he was totally normal about knowing that he had just asked to spend almost a whole day with mai.      he wasn’t being too blunt,     right?     he wasn’t being too pushy,     right?     was it too obvious he wanted to spend time with her?      …was he imagining things or were her cheeks flushed?      he wasn’t blushing,     wasn’t he?!      and her answer comes at the right time,     his overthinking nature now relieved as his smile began to match her own.     even though hers was prettier.      “     well,     ”     he pauses,     mind barely thinking over his schedule when he was currently cheesing over the thought of actually spending more time with her     —-     thank goodness he knew how to keep his emotions at bay!     “     lucky for us,     i happen to be free tonight,     ”     he nods,     casually dismissing a meeting he’s supposed to be at seven sharp at his agency.      he did hear them mentioning to his manager that they could reschedule it if he couldn’t make it,     anyway…      “     as for the ‘something else’,     i suppose you'll just have to wait and see.     it wouldn't be as exciting if i gave away all my secrets too soon,      now would it?     ”     his tone is light and playful,     matching the beaming mood she had set.     “     but that means we will have to finish these,     ”     he refers to their meals with a nod of his head,     hand returning to take a hold of his spoon,     “     before we can do all that unless we ditch—--     wait,     do you want to try this?     it’s gochujang pork broth,     it’s a bit spicy but i promise it’s tolerable,     ”     once he had scooped some of the broth,     he carefully holds it out to her direction with a hand at the bottom to prevent it from spilling from the spoon and on her,     “      and if you don’t like it,     tonight’s mackie will make up for it,     trust.     ”

she   wasn’t   sure   if   she   wanted   to   admit   that   she’d   missed   this   feeling   —   …   the   giddiness   of   mindless   flirtation  ,    accompanied   by   the   almost   floaty   sensation   that   followed   the   happy   ache   in   her   cheeks   left   in   the   wake   of   beaming   smiles  .   she   knew   there   was   a   telltale   flush   along   her   face  ,   knew   that   from   an   outsider’s   perspective  ,    the   sight   of   the   two   of   them   leaning   across   the   table   towards   each   other   was   nothing   but   pure  ,   undiluted   fresh   attraction  .   it   had   stupefied   her    at   first  ,   how   her   pulse   quickened   at   his   compliments   and   how   her   nerves   felt   like   a   live  -  wire   all   of   a   sudden   …   but   the   more   she   thought   about   it  ,   the   less   surprised   she   was   —   …   being   around   benny   made   her   happy  ,   and   that’s   all   there   really   needed   to   be  .   “   mmm  ,   ”   she   squinted   an   eye   and   pursed   her   lips   in   mock   contemplation  ,   tapping   a   finger   on   her   chin   as   she   pretended  to   mull   it   over  .   “   well   …   i’m   free   tonight   if   you’re   free   tonight   —   if   not  ,   then   whenever   you   say   you   are  ,   then   so   am   i   .   ”   she   beamed   at   him  ,   eagerness   touching   the   edges   of   her   smile  .   “   and   i’m   dying   to   know   what   this   ‘  something   else  ’   is  .   ”

benny is relieved until he’s not.    “     a h–haunted house?    ”     he stutters,     arms awkwardly moving over his chest,    then dropping them to his sides,    then back again and repeat!     an impulsive side urges him to say yes,    he knew it wasn’t real,    after all!     but the cowardly but very rational one says no!     benny smiles,    awkwardly and afraid as he    finally    crosses his arms over his chest.    “     if you stay in front of me through the whole thing…     i could think about it.    ”

rina found it ironic — as usually benny would be the one who would be breaking her out of her shell — but here he stood, cowering at the thought of ghosts, something that rina wasn't typically afraid of. she found it difficult to hide her grin. ❝ oh no, you don't have to worry. i think ghosts, if they are real, might hate me or something. they haven't haunted me even once. ❞ then she raised an eyebrow. ❝ so you won't come with me if i invite you to go to a haunted house, will you? ❞

benny whines at the tease,    but there’s nothing but pure amusement in his reaction.    “    like that one infinity war poster incident.     ohhh,    i still remember the scolding i got once the live was over.    and to top it off i’ve heard    many    people saying that it was just a promotional tactic and that it was all set up for it to be a smart marketing—     no,    i just thought i had permission to do that!    ”     and he was also high as shit,    he remembers,    but he wasn’t going to say that.    “     gemma,    if you ever tell me a secret i will take it to the grave,     trust.    i have leaked things,    yes,    but not because i wanted to!    and i would never want to leak your secrets.    ”     he puts a hand on his heart and everything.

"exactly. no thoughts, just vibes." gemma said with a laugh. that was surely one way to describe her vacation. although she did record some music while there, how could she not when the inspiration strikes. "hey i get it, i went on a trip because i finished tour and needed the break." she certainly didn't envy the early call times. "guess that's just motivation to look forward to planning a great vacay when you're done with filming." she grinned at benny's confession, gemma could just imagine him bursting at the seams while trying to keep the spoilers to himself. "if anyone would leak spoilers, it would be you. those poor people must have such stress worried 'bout when they'll wake up to headlines of you leaking something." she teased with an amused giggle. "remind me never to tell you any secrets i don't want everyone to know."

benny pouts at juno once again,    stop rolling your eyes at me,    you will get a headache!     lingering at the tip of his tongue.    “     i could do…     tomorrow.     yes,     tomorrow.     maybe we can go in the morning?     i imagine there’s less people in the morning because who wants to get up early,    anyway?      hey,    hey,    i won’t be forgetting,    hello?    i would never set you up!     ”

          she’ll  once  again  roll  her  eyes  at  his  dramatic  antics  and  waits  for  him  to  finish  before  answering  .  “  how  soon  are  you  trying  to  go  ?  i  could  do  now  .  tomorrow  .  whenever  .  i  just  can’t  promise  you  i  won’t  go  without  you  again  if  you  don’t  give  me  a  time  .  and  if  you  forget  ,  that  is  definitely  going  to  be  on  you  .  you  can’t  be  upset  !  ”

“     god,   yeah,   i need help.    please help me,    ria.   ”    he thrusts the perfectly wrapped up candy cane to them,    bottom lip sticking out into a pout as if he was begging for some aid.    and he was.    “     well,    it’s not like we can ski in new york,    no?    not a lot of people are exposed to it—    i wasn’t exposed to it until i had to film for gucci photoshoot in aspen years ago.    didn’t leave the place until i could at least do the bare minimum.    maybe that could be you,    who knows.    when’s your next ski lesson?    ”

          “  did  you  need  help  with  that  ?  ”  a  soft  chuckle  escapes  as  ria  fondly  shakes  their  head  at  benny  .  “  exactly  !  i  never  had  the  opportunity  to  travel  a  lot  so  i’m  taking  in  as  much  of  it  as  i  can  .  ”  and  it’s  a  nice  reminder  that  while  ria  works  hard  ,  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  spending  money  on  herself  every  once  in  a  while  .  “  i  ––  uh  .  i  don’t  know  how  to  ski  .  never  had  the  chance  to  learn  ,  ”  they  shrug  .  “  i  mean  i  signed  up  for  ski  lessons  so  who  knows  ?  maybe  by  the  end  of  this  trip  ,  i’ll  at  least  be  able  to  go  down  the  beginner  slopes  .  ”

“     thank you,    the plushie god,     ”     benny grants the other with a slow and rather dramatic bow,     returning back to his height to peek inside the bag,     “     i promise i will take care of this off brand sonic the hedgehog as if it’s my child.     maybe i will grab this tails,    too—     sonic and tails are not meant to be separated,    you know?    that’s just canon and the law,     they are brothers and everything…     also,    all these sanrio stuffies?    you will have people calling you the plushie god once you donate them,    really.    ”     and he keeps looking through the insides,     holding the brothers against his chest,    “     are you planning to play any more plush toys?     or are you done with the carnival?     ”

          “  yupp  ,  they’re  all  from  the  game  booths  .  ”  hayden  holds  out  the  bag  towards  benny  .  “  take  your  pick  .  you  could  even  take  another  if  you  want  .  there’s  just  way  too  many  and  i’d  hate  for  them  to  go  to  waste  .  like  what  would  i  do  with  this  many  plushies  ?  i’ll  planning  on  donating  most  of  them  too  ,  y’know  ?  ”

“     no,    i get it,    this place is cool as fuck and even if you’re not into skiing,    there’s a lot more to do in here—     like,     have you gone to the spa already?    you need to give it a try,    one of those ladies cracked my back so good i think i recovered from this one fall i had onset years ago.   i owe her my life.    ”

                    lets   out   a   chuckle   .       “   yeah   ,   maybe   just   one   ,   right   ?       a   little   souvenir   won’t   hurt   …   ”       and   let’s   be   honest   ,   ace   is   probably   eyeing   more   than   just   one   .       because   ,   hey   ,   it’s   his   first   time   in   a   joint   this   fancy   ,   and   those   little   luxuries   ?       who   can   resist   a   little   something   to   remember   this   resort   by   ?       especially   when   they   smell   like   they   cost   a   fortune   !       “   but   i   gotta   say   ,   this   place   ?       top - notch   fancy   .       but   the   skiing   gig   ?       waaaaaaaay   harder   than   it   looks   .       harlowe’s   been   a   saint   ,   really   ,   stopping   me   from   eating   snow   every   five   minutes   .       but   next   year   ?       i’m   coming   back   just   for   the   hotel   ,   man   .       no   cap   .   ”       (   and   yeah   ,   you   can   bet   he’ll   accidentally   pack   a   few   more   of   those   fancy   little   shampoos   too   —   you   know   ,   for   memories   and   stuff   !   )   .

“     if you liked it,     you can have it,     ”     he offers once she had taken a bite from the little snack,     a smile resembling the one she just shared with him not even a minute ago,     “     i do need to leave some space for the heart shaped cotton candy,     anyway,     ”     he pretends to pat his stomach to put emphasis on his words,     arm already raising for her to hold onto so they could walk to the stall together,     “     …and for the many things we will be eating—     i am in.    have you tasted any of the funnel cake thingies already ?     i heard there was a stall that covered them with strawberries,     chocolate syrup and everything,     so if you see anything like that while on our way there,      let me know—     we should try not to get too crazy about it,     or with any more carnival food because of our health,     you know?     but we can have a taste once a year,     no?     as a treat.      we deserve it.     ”    

          “  exactly  !  it  should  be  acceptable  regardless  of  the  occasion  .  i  think  it’d  be  even  cuter  during  halloween  .  black  ,  orange  and  purple  color  hearts  instead  of  pink  or  red  ,  ”  she  muses  ,  a  bright  smile  adorning  her  features  .  “  i  think  so  ,  yes  !  ”  ana  replies  with  a  dulcet  laugh  .  she  listens  as  benny  rambles  off  a  mile  a  minute  .  “  it’s  fine  ,  you  don’t  have  to  get  me  one  .  i’ll  just  take  a  small  bite  of  yours  .  ”  nimble  fingers  reach  out  to  wrap  around  the  stem  of  the  cake  pop  .  a  princess  sharing  food  like  that  ?  how  undignified  !  she  could  imagine  those  headlines  now  .  “  okay  how  about  this  :  cotton  candy  is  the  main  mission  but  we  grab  anything  else  we  feel  like  trying  on  our  way  to  the  stand  ?  ”
